At the State of Minnesota, employees play a critical role in developing policies, providing essential services, and working to improve the well-being and quality of life for all Minnesotans. The State of Minnesota is committed to equity and inclusion, and invests in employees by providing benefits, support resources, and training and development opportunities.

The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office (AGO) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems / Cloud Engineer to join our IT Division. In this senior level role, you will provide advanced engineering, administration, and lifecycle management of the AGO’s cloud and on-premises infrastructure. You will independently design, implement, monitor, and troubleshoot systems that support critical AGO operations, including Azure cloud services, identity and access management, virtualization platforms, servers, storage, backups, monitoring, and disaster recovery readiness. This role plays a key part in ensuring secure, stable, and high performing systems by conducting complex technical analysis, leading modernization and resiliency improvements, and serving as an escalation point for cross platform incidents. You will directly contribute to the strategic advancement of AGO technical infrastructure while maintaining strong communication and customer service relationships with end-users, IT colleagues, and agency partners.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Design, engineer, configure, and administer the AGO's cloud and on premises infrastructure, including Azure, AWS, Windows Server, virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper V), storage systems, and identity services.
Implement and maintain governance, security baselines, monitoring, logging, alerting, and access policies across infrastructure to ensure compliant, reliable, and secure operations.
Lead modernization and architecture improvements by planning and executing cloud migrations, resiliency enhancements, lifecycle management, and platform upgrades.
Manage and optimize backup, replication, and disaster recovery configurations using Azure and Veeam to ensure recoverability of critical AGO systems.
Serve as a senior technical escalation point for high complexity incidents involving servers, cloud services, identity platforms, storage, virtualization, and backups; conduct root cause analysis and lead remediation efforts.
Develop automation solutions using PowerShell, CLI, Infrastructure as Code principles, and cloud APIs to improve consistency, reduce manual effort, and enhance operational reliability.
Monitor infrastructure performance by building dashboards, establishing baselines, identifying early degradation, and implementing proactive performance tuning or corrective actions.
Maintain and enhance directory services, identity integrations (Entra ID, Conditional Access, MFA), certificates, and related security components supporting AGO's hybrid environment.
Coordinate closely with security, application, and networking teams to ensure that infrastructure changes, cloud configurations, and system updates align with AGO and statewide security standards.
Evaluate emerging technologies, platform updates, and industry best practices, and apply relevant advancements to AGO infrastructure to support ongoing modernization and efficiency.
Plan and execute high impact infrastructure changes or migrations that require senior level judgment, careful risk assessment, and cross team communication.
Provide technical leadership by contributing to architectural discussions, mentoring IT staff, and communicating complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work environment (combination of required in-office work and optional telework) after successful completion of onboarding and training.

Minimum Qualifications

Degree in information technology, information systems, or closely related field AND four or more years of directly related work experience
- OR six or more years of directly related work experience

Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex, multi platform technical incidents and conduct thorough root cause analysis across cloud and on premise environments.
Experience with infrastructure automation (PowerShell, CLI, APIs), monitoring tools, and performance tuning of cloud and hybrid systems.
Knowledge of disaster recovery, resilience patterns, high availability architectures, and enterprise backup strategies.
Strong communication, documentation, collaboration, organizational, and customer service skills; ability to work independently, multitask, and adapt to evolving technologies and priorities.
