THE ROLE

The Azure Cloud Engineer will serve as a hands-on technical contributor responsible for the administration, optimization, and continuous improvement of our Microsoft Azure cloud environment. This role partners closely with Architecture, Security, Data, and Application teams to ensure cloud platforms are secure, scalable, standardized, and aligned with industry best practices.

This position is ideal for an experienced cloud administrator who not only understands how to operate cloud platforms, but who can also recommend improvements, define standards, document processes, and implement changes that improve reliability, efficiency, and governance.

Key Responsibilities Include

Administer, monitor, and maintain Azure cloud infrastructure across compute, networking, storage, identity, and platform services.
Manage and support Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), including identity lifecycle management, access controls, conditional access, security groups, and integration with cloud and SaaS platforms.
Administer and support Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager, including device compliance policies, configuration profiles, application deployment, and endpoint security integrations.
Support and administer Microsoft Fabric and related data platform services from a platform and governance perspective, partnering closely with data engineering and analytics teams.
Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools such as ARM, Bicep, Terraform, or equivalent.
Collaborate with Architecture and DevOps teams to align cloud environments with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automation standards.
Establish and maintain cloud operational standards including naming conventions, tagging, monitoring, backups, cost management, and security baselines.
Identify inefficiencies, technical debt, and manual processes; propose and implement automation or platform improvements.
Develop and maintain clear technical documentation, standards, and operational runbooks.
Support cloud security initiatives by implementing least-privilege access, security monitoring, and compliance controls.
Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts.
Evaluate new Azure services and Microsoft platform capabilities and recommend adoption where appropriate.

What It Takes

This role requires both technical depth and operational maturity. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating in evolving cloud environments and thrives on improving systems rather than simply maintaining the status quo.

Key Competencies Include

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve cloud infrastructure and platform issues.
Ability to operate with a balance of autonomy and collaboration, working closely with architecture and engineering partners.
Comfort with ambiguity and incremental modernization efforts.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly for technical documentation and cross-team collaboration.
A mindset of continuous improvement, standardization, and automation.
Accountability, reliability, and attention to detail in production environments.
