Position Summary
NextEra Energy is seeking a Lead AWS Cloud Engineer to drive technical innovation for its Smart Grid 2.0 initiative. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role focused on designing and implementing secure, scalable cloud solutions spanning IoT, big data, and AI/ML platforms. The ideal candidate will combine deep AWS expertise with strong IoT and analytics experience while mentoring teams and leading architecture decisions in a mission-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement cloud-native architectures using AWS (Microservices, Serverless, Containers)
- Build end-to-end IoT solutions from device connectivity through real-time analytics
- Develop streaming data pipelines and time-series data solutions
- Design and optimize data lakes, warehouses, and analytics platforms
- Implement AI/ML solutions including predictive analytics and anomaly detection for smart grid use cases
- Prototype and integrate AI services using AWS SageMaker, Bedrock, and related tools
- Lead technical design reviews and provide mentorship to engineering teams
- Enforce DevOps best practices, cloud security standards, and scalable system design
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 8–10+ years of software development experience
- 5+ years of hands-on AWS cloud engineering experience
- 3+ years in a technical leadership or mentoring role
- Expert-level AWS experience including EC2, Lambda, IoT Core, Kinesis, S3, DynamoDB, Redshift, Glue, RDS
- Strong experience with real-time streaming, data engineering, and time-series databases
- Proficiency in Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, C#, or Go
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, and DevOps practices
- Hands-on exposure to AI/ML services and big data platforms (EMR, Spark, Hadoop)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in energy, utilities, or industrial IoT environments
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Pro, ML, or IoT Specialty)
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK)
- Strong background in cloud and IoT security
- Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and stakeholder communication
