Position Overview
The Azure DevOps Team Lead is responsible for leading the DevOps team and overseeing the design, implementation, automation, and optimization of the software delivery pipeline across the organization. This role ensures reliable, secure, and scalable infrastructure by leveraging Azure services, modern DevOps practices, and Infrastructure-as-Code. The Team Lead provides technical direction, mentors engineers, improves deployment workflows, and partners closely with Development, QA, and Delivery Management to enable smooth and predictable releases.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of DevOps Engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Manage task allocation, performance, and career development within the DevOps team.
- Collaborate with Development Managers, QA Leads, and Architecture to align DevOps priorities with organizational goals.
CI/CD Pipeline Ownership
- Own and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or related tools.
- Ensure automated build, test, and deployment processes are reliable, scalable, and auditable.
- Implement pipeline best practices including versioning, traceability, and security gates.
Cloud Infrastructure & Automation
- Design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure using Azure services (App Services, AKS, Functions, Key Vault, Storage Accounts, VNets, etc.).
- Implement Infrastructure-as-Code with tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates.
- Ensure environments are consistent, cost‑optimized, secure, and support high availability.
Operational Excellence
- Manage incident response, root cause analysis, and long-term remediation strategies.
- Oversee environment management (Dev, QA, Staging, Production).
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, and related tools.
Security & Governance
- Ensure deployment processes and infrastructure comply with security standards and policies.
- Oversee identity and access management, secrets, and key rotation strategies.
- Work with InfoSec to ensure audits, compliance requirements, and vulnerability management are satisfied.
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support
- Work closely with developers, QA, and Delivery Management to ensure smooth end‑to‑end delivery.
- Participate in solution design discussions, providing DevOps perspective and architectural input.
- Support release planning and provide infrastructure/deployment readiness assessments.
Process Improvement & Innovation
- Identify bottlenecks in deployment and environment processes and drive improvements.
- Introduce automation opportunities, including self-service tooling for development teams.
- Recommend new tools and practices to enhance reliability, security, and delivery speed.
Skills & Qualifications
5+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering.2+ years of experience in a leadership or senior technical role.Strong expertise with Azure services, ARM/Bicep/Terraform, Azure DevOps Pipelines, and Git.Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (AKS, Kubernetes).Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python).Excellent understanding of CI/CD concepts, branching strategies, and Agile delivery.Hands-on experience with monitoring and observability tools.Certifications such as:
- Azure Administrator (AZ-104)
- Azure DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400)
- Azure Solutions Architect (AZ-305)
- Experience designing and managing scalable, distributed cloud architectures.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (VNet, NSGs, private endpoints, firewalls).
- Experience with security best practices in cloud environments.
