Orion is hiring: Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY
- The primary purpose of this role is to design, build, migrate, and operate Azure-based infrastructure services that support business applications and data platforms while driving the strategic reduction and eventual elimination of on-premises data center dependencies.
- This position ensures reliable cloud operations, standardized configurations, disciplined migration execution, and the secure modernization of infrastructure services.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Azure Platform Engineering & Governance
- Design and maintain Azure foundational architecture, including subscriptions, resource groups, RBAC, policies, naming/tagging standards, and environment separation (production, test, development).
- Implement and manage cost governance practices, including budgets, alerts, usage reporting, and chargeback/showback support as required.
- Ensure Azure configurations align with established security standards and operational governance frameworks.
Cloud Infrastructure Operations & Reliability
- Operate and maintain Azure-hosted infrastructure services including compute, storage, networking, and core platform tooling.
- Manage monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes to ensure system availability, performance, and reliability.
- Maintain and regularly test backup and disaster recovery capabilities to support business continuity objectives.
Server Migration & Modernization Execution
- Assess on-premises workloads and develop migration strategies using appropriate patterns (rehost, refactor, replace, retire).
- Execute structured migration waves, validate performance and stability post-migration, and transition services to steady-state operations.
- Identify legacy systems appropriate for retirement or replacement in support of the data center exit strategy.
Network Connectivity & Hybrid Integration Support
- Support hybrid connectivity between Azure, corporate offices, and jobsites utilizing VPN, ExpressRoute (as applicable), DNS, routing, and secure remote access models.
- Collaborate with Network and Security teams to ensure hybrid access patterns are secure, scalable, and supportable.
Security & Infrastructure Controls
- Implement infrastructure security controls including configuration baselines, patch management, secure access models, logging, telemetry, and least-privilege access practices.
- Partner with Information Security on vulnerability remediation and infrastructure-related incident resolution.
- Maintain required documentation and audit artifacts including access approvals, change records, and configuration standards.
Automation, Standardization & Documentation
- Develop and maintain repeatable deployment standards using templates, scripts, automation tooling, and runbooks.
- Maintain accurate and current infrastructure documentation including diagrams, service dependencies, and operational procedures.
Microsoft Fabric / Data Platform Support (As Assigned)
- Support infrastructure components of data warehouse modernization initiatives, including connectivity, identity/access design, and operational monitoring.
- Partner with BI and Data teams to ensure platform reliability, controlled access, and predictable performance for refresh and processing workloads.
Vendor & Partner Coordination
- Coordinate with third-party vendors, consultants, and managed service providers to support cloud migrations, upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
- Ensure vendor deliverables align with company standards, change control processes, and operational expectations.
After-Hours Response & Operational Readiness
- Participate in the on-call rotation and provide off-hours support for cloud infrastructure alerts and high-impact incidents as required.
- Ensure incident documentation, communication, and resolution processes are timely and complete.
Project Participation
- Lead Azure-related infrastructure projects, delivering on approved design, schedule, and budget.
- Support broader IT initiatives as assigned by IT leadership (Director & VP of IT).

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience and/or certifications) with a minimum of five (5) years of infrastructure engineering experience, including at least three (3) years of hands-on Microsoft Azure production support.
Required experience includes:
- Azure infrastructure services (compute, storage, networking)
- Hybrid connectivity concepts (VPN, DNS, routing)
- Windows Server and/or Linux administration
- Change control processes and documentation standards
- Security best practices including RBAC and least-privilege access
- On-premises to Azure migration execution
- Monitoring, alerting, backup, and recovery operations
Preferred experience:
- Microsoft Fabric and/or Azure data services
The incumbent must demonstrate strong communication skills, discretion, organizational discipline, and the ability to work independently while adapting to changing priorities.
PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
May be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting jobsites.
Must remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as directed.
Occasional light physical requirements may include lifting objects up to 60 lbs.

- Salary Range: $130,000 – $140,000 annually (commensurate with experience and qualifications)
