About The Role
Our client, a leading organization within the property and casualty insurance industry, is undergoing a significant technology modernization initiative. As part of this transformation, we are seeking a Senior Kubernetes Platform Engineer to serve as a technical leader in building and operating large-scale, enterprise-ready Kubernetes platforms in AWS.
This role is ideal for an engineer with deep cloud-native expertise, a passion for platform engineering, and the ability to influence architecture and strategy in a highly complex environment. You will support both cloud modernization and developer enablement efforts, guiding teams in the adoption and optimization of container orchestration technologies.
Job Description
As a Senior Kubernetes Platform Engineer, you will take a leading role in shaping the organization’s modern cloud-native platform strategy. Beyond building and operating Kubernetes clusters, you will drive architectural decisions, define best practices, and help modernize how engineering teams deliver software at scale. You will act as a trusted advisor to development, security, and infrastructure teams—ensuring platform capabilities align to business needs while improving system reliability, automation, and developer experience.
Additional Responsibilities Include
- Partnering closely with cross-functional teams to evaluate platform requirements and design scalable, secure architectures for containerized workloads.
- Defining standards, patterns, and guardrails that support consistent, reliable Kubernetes usage across the enterprise.
- Leading platform modernization initiatives, identifying opportunities for automation, resilience improvements, cost optimization, and performance tuning.
- Driving adoption of cloud-native tools and technologies that strengthen observability, reliability, and operational excellence.
- Supporting the long-term roadmap for Kubernetes platform evolution, including cluster lifecycle strategy, multi-account/multi-cluster patterns, and environment standardization.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 3+ years of production Kubernetes engineering experience (cluster administration, troubleshooting, optimization).
- Minimum 3+ years of AWS cloud engineering experience.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code (required).
- Proven experience designing and operating containerized systems at scale in production environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of hands-on Kubernetes experience in enterprise environments.
- Strong expertise with AWS services such as EKS, EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, CloudWatch, Load Balancers, and related infrastructure.
- Advanced Terraform skills including module design, environment provisioning, and managing complex cloud configurations.
- Deep knowledge of Docker, container networking, and container security; experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
- Practical experience with CNCF ecosystem tools such as cert-manager, external-dns, ingress-nginx, cluster-autoscaler, Kyverno, Crossplane, or similar.
- Experience with CI/CD platforms including Jenkins, GitLab CI, Argo CD, Flux, or related tooling.
- Familiarity with microservices architectures, API gateways, service discovery, and distributed tracing.
- Observability experience using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, Datadog, or similar solutions.
- Experience building and using Helm charts and Kubernetes operators.
- Strong understanding of networking principles including Kubernetes CNI, ingress controllers, and AWS networking.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within Agile, DevOps, or platform engineering teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills grounded in data, metrics, and iterative validation.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.
- Proven leadership capabilities, including mentoring, team guidance, and influencing platform direction.
