Virtualization & Cloud Automation Engineer
Hybrid (80% Remote) The Woodlands, TX
Overview
We are seeking a Virtualization & Cloud Automation Engineer to support and evolve a modern hybrid infrastructure spanning on-prem systems and cloud platforms. This role is focused on improving reliability, scalability, and automation across virtualization environments, cloud services, and containerized workloads.
You’ll work across multiple layers of infrastructure, combining hands-on engineering, automation development, and platform optimization while partnering with infrastructure, security, and application teams.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Infrastructure & Virtualization
- Oversee and enhance enterprise virtualization environments built on VMware technologies
- Perform upgrades, patching, and performance optimization across compute, storage, and network virtualization layers
- Diagnose and resolve issues across hypervisors, management planes, and software-defined networking components
Cloud & Platform Engineering
- Support and manage cloud environments within Microsoft Azure, including compute, networking, and storage services
- Implement governance standards such as access controls, policies, and cost management practices
- Monitor cloud resource utilization and optimize for performance and efficiency
Containerization & Modern Platforms
- Deploy and maintain container platforms and orchestration tools
- Ensure stability and performance of containerized workloads, including networking and storage integration
- Support application teams onboarding workloads into container and cloud environments
Automation & Infrastructure as Code
- Design and build automation solutions to streamline provisioning and operations
- Develop reusable infrastructure code and integrate with CI/CD workflows
- Continuously improve deployment speed, consistency, and reliability through automation
Systems & Hardware Integration
- Support compute infrastructure including blade environments and associated networking components
- Manage firmware, configurations, and lifecycle processes across hardware systems
Operations, Security & Reliability
- Act as an escalation point for complex infrastructure and platform issues
- Participate in incident response and on-call support as needed
- Apply secure configuration practices aligned with modern security frameworks
- Monitor systems, logs, and alerts to proactively identify and resolve issues
- Contribute to disaster recovery planning and high-availability design
Documentation & Collaboration
- Create and maintain technical documentation including runbooks and architecture diagrams
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions
- Support audits, compliance efforts, and internal governance requirements
What We’re Looking For
- Strong background in virtualization engineering, particularly within VMware environments
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure
- Experience building automation using tools such as PowerShell, Python, Terraform, or similar
- Familiarity with container technologies and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including routing, DNS, and load balancing
- Experience working in production environments with high availability requirements
- Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across multiple domains
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across teams
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to VMware Cloud Foundation environments
- Experience with Git-based workflows and infrastructure automation pipelines
- Familiarity with container security, service mesh technologies, or advanced cloud governance
- Understanding of compliance frameworks and secure infrastructure practices
Certifications (Preferred)
- VMware certifications such as VCP, VCAP, or related credentials

This is a hybrid position based in The Woodlands, Texas, with approximately 80% remote flexibility. Candidates should be located within commuting distance for on-site work.
