My client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Cloud Engineer to join their Cloud Services team. This role is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and operation of secure, scalable, and reliable cloud infrastructure across our environments. The Senior Cloud Engineer serves as a technical leader, mentor, and escalation point for complex cloud and DevOps challenges, while partnering closely with development, security, and business stakeholders.
Primary Job Duties
- Architect and implement AWS cloud infrastructure solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), partnering with development and business stakeholders on design and delivery.
- Serve as a technical escalation point for complex infrastructure, networking, security, and deployment issues.
- Guide cloud standards, best practices, and governance aligned with organizational and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with application, security, and compliance teams to design secure-by-default cloud architectures.
- Support and drive improvements to CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and DevOps workflows.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members through code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to roadmap planning, technical decision-making, and evaluation of new tools and services.
- Participate in and help lead the 24/7 on-call rotation, including incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews.
- Identify opportunities to improve reliability, automation, monitoring, and operational efficiency across cloud environments.
Required Qualifications
The following qualifications represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the Senior Cloud Engineer role:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in cloud engineering, with a proven track record of designing and implementing solutions in large-scale environments, specifically with AWS.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability platforms at scale.
- Strong expertise with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform in a version-controlled, team-based environment.
- Deep understanding of cloud networking concepts, including VPC design, routing, firewalls, VPNs, load balancing, and DNS.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker.
- Strong experience with security best practices, including IAM, least-privilege access, encryption, and compliance controls.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell).
- Experience designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and participate in an on-call rotation.
Desired Qualifications
- One or more advanced cloud certifications, such as:
- AWS Solutions Architect – Professional
- AWS DevOps Engineer – Professional
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar.
- Ability to work on multiple concurrent complex projects and to coordinate the work of others in the cloud environment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, operating systems, networking, and cloud-native services.
- Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong mentoring mindset with a desire to grow and develop fellow engineers.
Must be willing to work onsite in Irving as needed.
