Role: Principal Engineer – Policy & Voice Policy Engine (VPE)
Function: Telecom Product Development Engineering
Business Unit: Roaming & Network Services (RNS)

About the Job: The Principal Engineer – Policy & VPE is responsible for end-to-end system architecture, design, and technical leadership for Policy Control and Voice Policy Engine solutions. The role requires deep expertise in telecom signaling, voice call flows, and real-time policy enforcement, along with modern cloud-native telecom architecture.
Roles & Responsibility: -
System & Solution Architecture
- Own end-to-end system design for Policy, VPE, and signaling-based enforcement platforms
- Architect real-time voice and signaling systems with strict latency, throughput, and availability SLAs
- Define functional and non-functional system requirements and deployment models
Telecom Protocols & Call Flows
- Design and validate call flows across call management, session management, and mobility
- Work extensively with SS7 (MAP/CAP/SCCP/TCAP), Diameter, SIP, GTP, HTTP/2, and 5G SBA interfaces
- Ensure compliance with 3GPP, GSMA IR, and ETSI standards
Cloud-Native & Platform Architecture
- Design solutions using NFV, VNF, and CNF architectures
- Apply containerization, Kubernetes, and microservices-based designs
- Support deployments across VM-based, containerized, and hybrid operator environments
Reliability, Performance & Scale
- Design carrier-grade systems with active-active or active-standby redundancy
- Ensure fault tolerance, geo-redundancy, and disaster recovery
- Meet strict latency and throughput requirements for real-time voice traffic
Cross-Functional & Customer Engagement
- Act as technical authority across Product, Development, QA, DevOps, and Delivery teams
- Lead HLD/LLD reviews and deployment readiness activities
- Support critical customer escalations and mentor engineering teams

Technical skills:
Telecom & Policy Domain
- Strong knowledge of mobility, call management, and session management
- Deep understanding of voice and signaling-based policy enforcement
- Solid understanding of telecom evolution from 2G to 5G
System & Architecture Expertise
- Proven experience designing large-scale, distributed telecom systems
- Strong background in high availability, failover, and latency-sensitive designs
Cloud-Native Skills
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerized workloads, and microservices
- Strong networking fundamentals (IP routing, load balancing, firewalls)
Work Experience:
- 12+ years of experience in telecom system engineering, product development, or deployments
- Experience working with Tier-1 telecom operators preferred
Educational Qualification:
BE. / B.Tech., M.E./M.Tech. or M. Sc. in Computer Science / Electronics Engineering / MCA
