Fiscus is the Bank Statement Analysis platform by BridgeUp Tech — powering credit decisions, real-time
monitoring, and lead generation for leading Indian banks and NBFCs. We run as both multi-tenant Cloud
APIs and on-prem enterprise deployments. Our engineering challenge: build systems fast enough for
real-time underwriting, accurate enough for regulated banks, and flexible enough to handle every edge
case Indian banking throws at us.
About the role:
This is a hands-on Tech Lead role — roughly 70% code, 30% leadership. You will own architecture and
delivery for the Java + Spring Boot services behind Fiscus, mentor a small team, and be the technical partner
to product and founders. You will not be a management-only lead. If you've stopped writing production code,
this role is not for you.
What you'll own:
Architecture, API design, and code quality across Fiscus's backend microservices.
Scaling the platform — throughput, latency, and tenant isolation — as we onboard more enterprise clients.
Keeping Cloud APIs and on-prem builds in sync from one codebase. One spec, two deployment models.
Solving the hard problems the team hits — not just delegating them.
Code reviews that raise the bar. You explain the why, not just the what.
Mentoring 4-8 engineers. Setting the standard for testing, documentation, and engineering discipline.
Reliability — SLOs, observability, incident response, on-call practices fit for regulated bank environments.
Representing Fiscus in technical conversations with partner engineering teams and enterprise clients.
Must-haves:
7+ years of backend engineering experience — language-agnostic. Polyglot backgrounds welcome. If your
career has spanned Go, Python, Node, Scala, or anything else alongside Java, that's a plus, not a problem.
Working proficiency with Java + Spring Boot. You can design, build, and ship production services in this
stack today — even if it hasn't been your primary language for every role.
You've scaled a production system. You've owned a service through real growth — higher traffic, more
tenants, tighter SLAs — and you can walk us through what broke, what you fixed, and what you'd do
differently.
Hands-on with AWS (EC2/ECS, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch), message queues (SQS / RabbitMQ /
Kafka), and Redis for caching and async workflows.
Strong fundamentals: REST API design, relational data modeling (PostgreSQL / MySQL), distributed
systems, concurrency, performance tuning, API security.
You've shipped in fast-paced startup environments — ambiguous specs, shifting priorities, and end-to-
end ownership from design to production.
Clear communicator — written and verbal. You can hold a technical discussion with a partner CTO and
mentor a junior engineer on the same day.
Nice-to-haves:
Kubernetes experience — EKS, Helm, autoscaling, secrets management.
CI/CD pipeline design and observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Datadog).
Exposure to fintech, lending, underwriting, or any regulated domain where audit and change control matter.
Prior experience mentoring or hiring engineers.
How we work:
Small team, high trust. Direct access to founders. Decisions in hours, not weeks.
Quality first. One well-designed API beats five half-baked ones.
Write it down. Design docs, ADRs, and runbooks are how we scale without breaking the product.
Own it end-to-end — from design to deploy to on-call.
What you'll get:
Meaningful ownership of a product used by some of India's largest banks.
A seat at the table on architecture, hiring, and roadmap decisions.
Competitive compensation + ESOPs.
Hybrid work from our Mumbai office.
Health insurance, learning budget, and time off you're actually encouraged to take.
