Harbor.ai is an InsurTech startup aiming to revolutionize the enterprise insurance market. Our technology simplifies the process for insurance brokers to identify optimal coverage for their clients continuously, and this is just the beginning. Established in 2018, Harbor.ai is venture-backed and based in New York.
This position is 100% on-site at our New York City headquarters.
About the Role:
We're looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our DevOps team and help scale our infrastructure. You'll architect cloud systems, establish best practices, and build robust infrastructure that enables our engineering organization to move fast. This is a deeply hands-on role where you'll make critical infrastructure decisions, define our approach to cloud architecture and security, and ensure we scale reliably. A high-impact position for someone who thrives in startup environments with true ownership over production systems.
Required:
- 2+ years of DevOps experience
- Startup or similarly fast-paced, hands-on environment experience (Must-have)
- Expert-level AWS production experience
- Production Kubernetes cluster architecture and administration
- Deep Terraform expertise at scale
- Experience designing enterprise-grade CI/CD systems
- Strong Python and Bash automation capabilities
- Cloud security architecture, networking design, and compliance experience
- Track record building production environments from scratch
Tech Stack:
- Cloud: AWS
- Containers: Docker, Kubernetes
- CI/CD: Modern CI/CD platforms
- IaC: Terraform
Preferred:
- Microservices architecture at scale
- Advanced observability implementation
- Database operations experience
- Compliance implementation experience
- GitOps workflows
What You'll Do:
- Own infrastructure strategy and architecture decisions
- Design and implement scalable, secure cloud environments
- Architect and optimize production Kubernetes clusters
- Establish DevOps best practices, standards, and processes
- Build robust CI/CD systems for fast, reliable deployments
- Implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting
- Drive infrastructure automation initiatives
- Own incident response and establish SLIs/SLOs
- Define security policies and compliance controls
- Optimize infrastructure costs and performance
- Create documentation and runbooks
What We're Looking For:
You've built and scaled production systems in startup or similarly fast-paced environments where you owned infrastructure end-to-end. You understand the full DevOps lifecycle and can balance speed with reliability as the business grows. You have strong technical opinions from real experience but stay pragmatic about tradeoffs. You're excited to work on a small, focused team where you'll have significant impact on our DevOps practice, establishing patterns, choosing tooling, and building the foundation for growth. You make sound technical decisions with incomplete information and thrive doing both deep hands-on work and strategic thinking.
