The Senior Systems & Cloud Engineer designs builds, and operate primarily across Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), while supporting the on-premises systems that connect to them. This is a hands-on, cloud-focused role for an engineer who brings strong system-engineering fundamentals — Windows, Linux, networking, and identity — and applies them to building reliable, well-architected cloud environments.
Terraform is central to how the role works: infrastructure is defined as reusable, version-controlled configurations rather than provisioned by hand. The ideal candidate pairs cloud engineering with a solid infrastructure background, bringing consistency, repeatability, and reliability to everything we run. This role will likely spend 50% of the time working within our Azure environment, 20% on-premises technologies, 20% on GCP and remainder time on other internal technologies. A passion for automation and process improvement is key.
A Typical Day
- Administer, patch, and harden Windows Server and Linux systems across on-prem and cloud environments.
- Manage virtualization, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, certificates, and core infrastructure services.
- Provision and operate Azure and GCP compute, storage, networking, identity, and hybrid connectivity.
- Build secure cloud landing zones, support workload migrations, and optimize cost, tagging, and resource hygiene.
- Define and maintain Terraform configurations, modules, state, standards, and Git-based deployment workflows.
- Automate configuration and operational tasks with PowerShell, Bash, and Infrastructure-as-Code practices.
- Monitor systems, respond to alerts, support incidents, and ensure uptime, performance, capacity, and security.
- Maintain backup, disaster recovery, compliance, documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.
- Partner with internal teams and vendors while mentoring others and standardizing platforms across data center and cloud.
To Land This Opportunity
• You bring hands-on Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code experience, turning complex environments into clean, repeatable, version-controlled builds.
• You enjoy using PowerShell and Bash to automate the manual work others still do the hard way.
• You’re confident administering Windows Server and Linux environments and keeping critical systems secure, stable, and ready for what’s next.
• You understand virtualization, including Nutanix, and know how to keep hosts, clusters, capacity, and performance running smoothly.
• You’ve built in Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) across compute, storage, networking, identity, and serverless patterns — with an eye toward cloud environments that scale with the business.
• You know Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and certificate services — the core services that keep an enterprise connected.
• You can connect the dots across switching, VLANs, routing, firewalls, VPN, and hybrid connectivity between the data center and the cloud.
• Storage, backup, and disaster recovery are familiar territory, including SAN/NAS and backup tooling — because resilience is more than a buzzword.
• You look for smart ways to use PowerShell, Bash, or Python to make infrastructure faster, safer, and easier to support.
• Git-based version control and CI/CD pipelines are part of your infrastructure toolkit, bringing software-engineering discipline to systems work.
• You take pride in patch management, monitoring, and systems hardening, building environments that are both reliable and secure.
• You troubleshoot with curiosity and a root-cause mindset, digging past symptoms to solve the real problem.
• You communicate clearly in writing and conversation, translating technical complexity into practical next steps.
• Strong documentation and diagramming skills help you leave behind roadmaps others can follow.
• You balance planned projects, urgent incidents, and everything in between with strong time management and prioritization.
• You enjoy sharing knowledge and raising the technical bar for the people around you.
