Company: $40M-Funded Series A Industrial Technology Startup
Location: San Francisco, CA
Work Arrangement: Onsite, five days per week
Compensation: $150,000 to $175,000 base salary, plus equity
Experience: Ideally 3 to 8 years
About the Company
Our client is a VC-backed industrial technology startup rebuilding America’s metal supply through advanced recycling and computer vision technology. The company has developed novel sortation technology that separates mixed scrap into pure alloys, as well as computer vision sensors that help recycling facilities price materials accurately and detect fraud in real time.
Backed by $40 million in Series A funding, the company is a small, high-caliber team preparing to scale its technology across hundreds of customer locations nationwide.
About the Role
The company is hiring its first dedicated Infrastructure Engineer to own the operational foundation of its sensor platform. You will take end-to-end responsibility for cloud infrastructure, infrastructure-as-code, deployment pipelines, observability, incident response, reliability, and cost controls.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer who has scaled production infrastructure and is comfortable operating independently within an early-stage environment. This is not an application-development position with occasional DevOps responsibilities.
What You’ll Do
- Own production infrastructure across GCP, including Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, GCS, IAM, secrets, and environment parity
- Build and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform
- Develop CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
- Implement observability across logs, metrics, alerts, dashboards, and incident response
- Improve platform reliability, scalability, security, and operational performance
- Establish cloud cost controls as customer deployments increase
- Manage observability for GPU workloads
- Build fleet automation for edge devices deployed at customer locations
- Own production incidents and participate in on-call responsibilities
- Partner directly with the founders and engineering team on infrastructure decisions
Required Qualifications
- Ideally, 3+ years of infrastructure, platform, DevOps, SRE, or cloud engineering experience
- Proven end-to-end ownership of production infrastructure
- Demonstrated experience scaling infrastructure in a production environment
- Strong experience with GCP or AWS
- Hands-on experience with Terraform or comparable infrastructure-as-code tooling
- Strong knowledge of Docker, Linux, CI/CD, and deployment automation
- Experience implementing observability systems for logs, metrics, alerts, and incident response
- Production on-call or incident-response experience
- Ability to own infrastructure with minimal oversight
- Computer science degree or equivalent engineering background
- Ability to work onsite in San Francisco five days per week
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience at a top-tier technology company or high-growth VC-backed startup
- Early-stage startup experience, preferably Series A or earlier
- Experience managing GPU workloads or distributed edge-device fleets
- Familiarity with Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL
- Experience with Cloud SQL performance tuning
- Familiarity with Ansible, Tailscale, GitHub Actions, or similar tools
- Experience managing cloud costs and capacity planning
- Background supporting hardware and software systems operating across distributed physical locations
What Makes This Opportunity Different
- Become the first dedicated infrastructure hire at a well-funded Series A startup
- Own the entire operational foundation rather than a narrow piece of a larger platform
- Work across cloud services, GPU jobs, deployment systems, and edge-device fleets
- Join a small team solving a major industrial and environmental problem
- Receive competitive equity with meaningful ground-floor upside
