Multi‑Cloud Platform Engineer - Hybrid/Onsite in Des Moines, Iowa
Overview
We are supporting an enterprise client building the next generation of their cloud foundation and are looking for a hands‑on platform engineer to lead its evolution. This role focuses on transforming an early‑stage cloud environment into a resilient, automated, and secure multi‑cloud platform that scales with the business. You will be responsible for designing, engineering, and operating shared cloud foundations across AWS and Azure, with a strong emphasis on landing zone architecture, Infrastructure as Code, and long‑term platform sustainability. This is a builder role for someone who enjoys creating durable systems that enable dozens of teams to move faster and safer in the cloud.
What You’ll Do
Cloud Platform Architecture
- Design and implement enterprise‑grade cloud foundations across AWS and Azure
- Establish scalable account and subscription models, including organizational structures and lifecycle management
- Build and maintain shared platform services that support workload teams across environments
- Ensure platform consistency and governance intent across cloud providers while leveraging native capabilities
- Own the ongoing evolution of the platform through upgrades, refactoring, and technical debt reduction
Infrastructure Automation
- Develop and operate cloud foundations using Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines for platform deployments using Git‑based workflows
- Automate environment provisioning, baseline configuration, and decommissioning
- Ensure all platform changes are repeatable, tested, versioned, and auditable
Security, Governance & Observability
- Implement preventative and detective controls using native cloud governance mechanisms
- Embed identity, access management, and least‑privilege patterns into the platform by design
- Enable centralized monitoring, logging, and observability at the platform level
- Support audit, risk, and compliance requirements through automated controls and standards
Collaboration & Technical Ownership
- Serve as the primary hands‑on engineer responsible for platform design and reliability
- Partner closely with architecture, security, networking, and application teams
- Translate architectural direction into working, production‑ready platform capabilities
- Contribute to internal standards, documentation, and enablement materials
What We’re Looking For
Required Experience
- Strong hands‑on background in cloud, infrastructure, or platform engineering
- Demonstrated experience designing and operating AWS and/or Azure landing zones
- Advanced proficiency with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code best practices
- Experience managing multi‑account or multi‑subscription cloud environments at scale
- Solid understanding of:
- Cloud networking patterns (hub‑and‑spoke, connectivity, DNS)
- Identity and access control models
- Enterprise cloud security and governance concepts
- Software‑engineering mindset with experience in version control, modular design, and code review
- Ability to work across teams and communicate platform standards clearly
Preferred Experience
- Operating cloud platforms in regulated, audit‑sensitive, or enterprise environments
- Familiarity with:
- AWS account vending models (Control Tower, custom automation, or Terraform‑based approaches)
- Azure management group and landing zone design patterns
- Experience building automation and pipelines using GitHub Actions or similar tooling
- Exposure to enterprise observability platforms and centralized monitoring solutions
- Comfortable helping organizations transition from ad‑hoc cloud usage to standardized platforms
