SOFTWARE DEVELOPER V/CLOUD ENGINEER
Position Description
Seeking a Software Developer V (Principal) / Cloud Engineer to serve
as a principal-level technical expert responsible for architecting, developing, securing, and
evolving enterprise cloud solutions within Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services
(AWS) environments. This position provides technical leadership for cloud-native software
development, cloud architecture, automation, and advanced cyberspace capability
development.
The Cloud Engineer will operate with broad technical autonomy and influence, establishing
cloud engineering strategies, architectural standards, and development practices for
secure, resilient, and scalable systems. The successful candidate will provide technical
direction across complex initiatives, evaluate emerging cloud technologies, and guide
engineering teams in the design and implementation of mission-critical cloud capabilities.
Active TOP SECRET/SCI clearance with Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph required.
Minimum/General Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of progressively complex software development,
cloud engineering, systems engineering, or related technical experience, or
equivalent expertise.
- Extensive experience designing and implementing enterprise solutions using
Microsoft Azure and/or AWS.
- Demonstrated experience defining cloud architecture, software architecture, and
technical strategy for complex systems.
- Advanced experience with one or more programming or scripting languages such as
Python, C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Experience with cloud-native technologies and frameworks, including containers,
microservices, serverless architectures, APIs, and distributed systems, as
applicable.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation technologies such as
Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Azure Bicep, or equivalent tools.
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices using tools
such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or equivalent
platforms.
- Experience working with Linux and/or Windows Server operating systems in
enterprise cloud environments.
- Demonstrated expertise in cloud security, identity and access management,
networking, monitoring, logging, and vulnerability mitigation.
- Ability to serve as a technical authority and provide architectural guidance across
software, cloud, and cyberspace domains.
Functional Responsibility
- Define and evolve enterprise cloud architectures, cloud engineering standards, and
software development strategies supporting secure mission environments.
- Architect, develop, integrate, and modernize applications and services using Azure
and/or AWS cloud platforms.
- Lead the design of secure, scalable, highly available, resilient, and maintainable
cloud solutions.
- Establish and implement Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, and
automated provisioning practices to create repeatable and controlled cloud
environments.
- Define and guide CI/CD and DevSecOps strategies, integrating automated build,
testing, security scanning, deployment, and monitoring capabilities.
- Provide technical leadership for cloud migrations and application modernization,
including evaluation of cloud-native, containerized, serverless, and microservicesbased approaches.
- Develop and guide implementation of cloud security architectures incorporating
identity and access management, least privilege, encryption, network
segmentation, secrets management, logging, monitoring, and vulnerability
mitigation.
- Drive innovation in cloud-enabled cyberspace capability development and identify
opportunities to leverage emerging cloud technologies.
- Lead development of advanced technical approaches, tradecraft, and tactics,
techniques, and procedures (TTPs) supporting mission requirements.
- Evaluate architectural alternatives and advise leadership on technical risk, security,
scalability, performance, feasibility, cost, and long-term technology investments.
- Troubleshoot and provide technical direction for complex software, infrastructure,
networking, performance, and cloud integration issues.
- Mentor senior engineers and developers and establish organizational best practices
for cloud engineering, software development, automation, security, and
DevSecOps.
- Collaborate with software developers, cybersecurity professionals, systems
engineers, network engineers, and mission stakeholders to deliver integrated cloud
capabilities.
Requirements
- Recognized expertise in cloud architecture, software architecture, and secure
system development.
- Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon Web Services
(AWS) and their core compute, storage, networking, identity, security, monitoring,
and application services.
- Strong understanding of cloud security architecture, including identity and access
management, encryption, network security, secrets management, logging,
monitoring, and vulnerability mitigation.
- Demonstrated experience with Infrastructure as Code, automation, configuration
management, and CI/CD/DevSecOps practices.
- Experience designing and supporting cloud-native and distributed applications,
including containers, APIs, microservices, and/or serverless technologies.
- Advanced proficiency with applicable programming and scripting languages and
experience working across Linux and/or Windows environments.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex technical requirements and translate
them into secure, scalable cloud architectures and implementation strategies.
- Ability to influence enterprise technical direction, establish engineering standards,
and provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong technical communication skills with the ability to communicate architectural
decisions, risks, and recommendations to both technical teams and organizational
leadership.
- DoD Manual 8140.03 (DoDM 8140.03) baseline certification required for the
assigned role category.
- Active TOP SECRET/SCI clearance with Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph required.
- Ability to work onsite daily in a secure facility; this position is not eligible for
remote work.
Location: Fort Meade, MD - Onsite
Salary Range: $270,000 - $290,000
