About the Opportunity
HummingBird is hiring a Cloud Engineer on behalf of its client, a leading technology organization based in Los Angeles, California.
We are looking for an experienced Cloud Engineer to design, implement, maintain, and optimize scalable and secure cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with cloud platforms, Infrastructure as Code, automation, CI/CD, monitoring, and cloud security.
The successful candidate will collaborate with software engineering, DevOps, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams to build reliable, high-performing, and cost-effective cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure
- Design, deploy, configure, and manage cloud infrastructure across development, testing, and production environments.
- Work with cloud services including compute, storage, networking, databases, containers, and serverless technologies.
- Ensure cloud infrastructure is scalable, highly available, secure, and reliable.
- Monitor cloud environments and proactively identify performance and availability issues.
- Support cloud migration, modernization, and infrastructure transformation initiatives.
Infrastructure as Code & Automation
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep, or similar tools.
- Automate cloud provisioning, configuration, deployment, and operational processes.
- Develop scripts and automation solutions using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
- Establish repeatable and standardized infrastructure deployment practices.
DevOps & CI/CD
- Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
- Automate application deployment and infrastructure-release processes.
- Work with tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, or Azure DevOps.
- Support containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Implement DevOps best practices across cloud environments.
Cloud Security
- Implement cloud security best practices covering identity, access, networking, encryption, and data protection.
- Configure and manage IAM roles, policies, security groups, and access controls.
- Support vulnerability management, security monitoring, and remediation activities.
- Ensure cloud infrastructure complies with organizational security and governance standards.
- Work with security teams to address cloud-related risks and vulnerabilities.
Monitoring & Reliability
- Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability solutions.
- Analyze infrastructure and application performance and recommend improvements.
- Troubleshoot production incidents and conduct root-cause analysis.
- Develop solutions to improve system availability, resilience, and disaster recovery.
- Participate in on-call and incident-response activities when required.
Cloud Cost Optimization
- Monitor cloud resource utilization and spending.
- Identify opportunities to optimize cloud infrastructure costs.
- Implement appropriate resource-sizing, scaling, and utilization strategies.
- Support cloud cost-governance and FinOps initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 4–8 years of experience in Cloud Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, or Systems Engineering.
- Strong hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture, networking, compute, storage, and security.
- Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code technologies.
- Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong scripting skills using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar.
- Experience with Git and modern source-control practices.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Technical Skills
Experience with several of the following will be an advantage:
- AWS: EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, Lambda, RDS, CloudWatch, ECS/EKS.
- Azure: Virtual Machines, VNets, Azure Storage, Azure Functions, AKS, Azure Monitor.
- GCP: Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, VPC, GKE, Cloud Functions.
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, CloudFormation, ARM/Bicep.
- Containers: Docker, Kubernetes, Helm.
- CI/CD: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps.
- Monitoring: Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor.
- Configuration Management: Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or similar.
- Networking: DNS, VPN, load balancing, firewalls, routing, TCP/IP.
- Security: IAM, secrets management, encryption, vulnerability management.
- Experience with Linux/Unix administration.
- Familiarity with microservices and cloud-native architectures.
