System Architect – Earth Observation Data Platform
Role: Contract to Hire
Location: Bengaluru

As our System Architect , you will be responsible for designing and overseeing the technical blueprint of our platform, ensuring it is robust, scalable, and future proof. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, integrating advanced satellite imagery, data analytics, and cloud computing to build a service that is reliable and innovative.
Key Responsibilities:
- Platform Architecture Design:
- Design the architecture of a large-scale, cloud-based Earth Observation (EO) imagery platform, focusing on real-time data aggregation, storage, and delivery.
- Ensure the platform’s design supports high scalability to handle large volumes of satellite imagery and metadata from multiple sources.
- Incorporate microservices architecture and DevOps principles to enhance flexibility, modularity, and deployment speed.
- Data Integration & Pipeline Development:
- Lead the integration of EO data from multiple external providers, including Maxar, Planet Labs, and other satellite systems.
- Develop robust data pipelines that can ingest, process, and serve imagery in real-time while maintaining high availability and low latency.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with teams including product managers, software engineers, data scientists, and UI/UX designers to align technical requirements with business goals.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams, ensuring best practices in system architecture, cloud infrastructure, and software development are followed.
- Cloud Infrastructure and Storage:
- Design and optimize cloud infrastructure for handling large volumes of EO data, ensuring cost-effective storage and fast retrieval.
- Implement multi-cloud strategies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to maximize the platform’s reliability and security.
- Security & Compliance:
- Ensure the system complies with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards, especially for sensitive governmental or defense applications.
- Oversee the implementation of encryption protocols, data privacy measures, and disaster recovery plans to safeguard the platform’s data assets.
- Performance Optimization:
- Continuously monitor system performance and work on optimizing processes to handle real-time data processing.
- Introduce load balancing, auto-scaling mechanisms, and other solutions to improve platform efficiency and uptime.
- Emerging Technologies Integration:
- Keep track of technological advancements in EO, AI, and cloud computing, and integrate these technologies to keep the platform cutting-edge.
- Explore the use of machine learning algorithms for automated analysis and anomaly detection within satellite imagery datasets.
Requirements:
- Experience:
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in system architecture or technical leadership roles, ideally within Earth Observation, geospatial, or remote sensing industries.
- Proven experience designing and implementing cloud-based platforms at scale, handling large datasets and real-time data streams.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and experience in cloud architecture design.
- Expertise in microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and serverless computing.
- Familiarity with Earth Observation platforms, satellite data, and geospatial technologies (e.g., GIS tools, remote sensing data).
- Software & Tools:
- Proficiency in Python, Java, or similar languages, with experience in building scalable APIs.
- Experience with database systems for large-scale data management (e.g., NoSQL, SQL databases).
- Knowledge of data streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka) and CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.
- Leadership & Collaboration:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage technical teams and drive cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with satellite imagery platforms (Maxar, Planet Labs) and data aggregation systems.
- Exposure to AI/ML applications for image processing and geospatial data analytics.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks for data privacy and security, particularly in defense or governmental sectors.
