We are looking for a
DevOps / DevSecOps Engineer to join our growing team.
About The Role
We're seeking an experienced DevOps/DevSecOps Engineer to manage and optimize our AWS infrastructure while ensuring robust security and compliance standards. You'll maintain CI/CD pipelines, implement monitoring and observability systems, and support regulatory compliance requirements. This role offers the opportunity to work with modern infrastructure tools and contribute to mission-critical systems in a collaborative, efficient environment.
Your expertise will contribute to developing a working prototype or minimum viable product (MVP) designed to pilot various prioritized applications for the FDA. Utilizing an Agile development framework, you will help develop this initial prototype before scaling it into a fully productionized tool ready for enterprise-wide deployment.
About You
You are inquisitive by nature, detail oriented, creative, patient, and a results-focused problem solver who enjoys collaboration with your team. You use critical reasoning, are open-minded and enjoy the steps involved when confronted with a complex challenge. You have a high standard of accountability and can influence others by creating effective presentations that communicate complex analytics to non-technical senior management and executives. You bring experience communicating with stakeholders and project team(s) effectively and timely both verbally and in writing. You are comfortable coordinating day-to-day project activities and client contact.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years in DevOps, DevSecOps, or SRE roles
- Strong AWS experience, especially ECS and Terraform
- Experience implementing or improving monitoring systems and incident workflows
- Comfort with scripting (Python, Bash) for automation and operational tooling
- Familiarity with Postgres in production
- Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance is required.
Additional Preferred Skills
- Exposure to Ansible or other config mgmt tools
- Experience supporting compliance frameworks (HIPAA, SOC 2)
- Familiarity with Kubernetes or EKS (or desire to grow into it)
- Exposure to AI/ML infra (e.g., GPU workloads, model deployment)
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure: Own and evolve our AWS infra (ECS/Fargate, RDS/Postgres, S3, IAM, VPC)
- CI/CD & IaC: Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and Infra-as-Code (Terraform)
- Monitoring & Observability: Set up alerting, log aggregation, and performance dashboards (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, or OpenTelemetry)
- Security & Compliance: Implement secure-by-default practices; support SOC 2 / HIPAA readiness
- Automation: Write Python/Bash scripts for backups, monitoring, deployment hooks, etc.
- Database Ops: Database Ops Assist with Postgres tuning, access control, and migrations
- Future-Proofing: Lay groundwork for container orchestration (EKS/Kubernetes) if/when we scale beyond ECS

Location and Telework
This is a remote position. Candidates must be willing to travel to the office, in Arlington, VA, for the occasional team/client meetings. Five percent travel can be expected. Flexibility is expected of the employee to be available for client/team meetings if the employee lives outside the Eastern Time Zone.
