The Cloud Engineer is responsible for providing high level guidance, training and formal cloud architecture, standards and strategy. Provides technical leadership for both private and public cloud-based infrastructure, services and integrations This Cloud Engineer position will need to be proficient in Azure and is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud-based infrastructure and services. This role requires a deep understanding of cloud architecture and the ability to build solutions from the ground up. Key responsibilities include developing cloud strategies, designing scalable and secure cloud environments, and supporting both on-premises networking and cloud infrastructure services. The ideal candidate will have experience with Azure, proficiency in automation and orchestration tools, and a strong foundation in network and system engineering. Additionally, they should be adept at troubleshooting and optimizing cloud deployments, ensuring high availability and performance. Collaboration with IT security teams to maintain compliance and protect against threats is also crucial.
This position analyzes, designs, installs, configures, and maintains the Town’s cloud network and services, to include, but not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, IPS/IDS equipment, VPN, and wireless equipment. This position also designs, evaluates, and recommends IT solutions, writes RFPs, Scope of Work, and creates technical documentation.

Cloud Engineer.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains the cloud standards, solutions, and architecture in conjunction with the IT Leadership team’s cloud strategy.
- Collaborates with development, engineering, security, and networking teams to evaluate and identify optimal cloud solutions.
- Builds, designs, deploys, maintains, and lead the implementation of cloud infrastructure solutions across multiple cloud offerings and departments.
- Creates, manages, monitors and decommissions cloud infrastructure, systems, resources, networks, and other cloud services to support Town of Gilbert infrastructure.
- Troubleshoots incidents, identifies root cause, and implements preventative measures.
- Identifies, analyzes, and resolves infrastructure vulnerabilities and application deployment issues.
- Manages requests for new technology, establishing a secure cloud environment, and ensuring appropriate availability and reliability of cloud services.
- Provides on-going support for specific cloud-based enterprise infrastructure systems and applications.
- Implements infrastructure automation using code and tools.
This position is an At-Will position and is FLSA Exempt – ineligible for overtime compensation.
This department is currently working in a hybrid environment, with partial remote work. Modified work privileges are approved at the sole discretion of the department director; as such, the department reserves the right to modify or discontinue modified work arrangements at any point.
Regardless of work location (Remote, On-Site, or Hybrid) Town of Gilbert employees are required to reside in the state of Arizona by hire date.
Minimum Qualifications & Special Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management, Information Systems, or closely related field. However, a non-technical degree can be acceptable if complemented with the appropriate certifications and/or experience
- 7+ years of experience in cloud enterprise systems or security engineering
- 5-7 years of Enterprise Multi Cloud Network Design, Administration, and Automation including Firewall Security.
- Must be able to pass PD background
- Must participate in on-call rotation
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate – Required
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate- Required
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert – Desired
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Information Technology security best practices and procedures for safeguarding systems/data, including Disaster Recovery;
- Multi Cloud Virtual Stack Security Administration, Routing, Switching, VLANs, and ISP connectivity.
- Automation using Infrastructure as code.
- CCOE Concepts and strategies.
Skill In
- Enterprise LAN/WAN/SD-WAN architecture and design;
- Project management procedures and techniques, including capacity planning concepts, and business analysis methodologies.
- Intrusion Detection Systems, Intrusion Prevent Systems, and Firewall configuration.
- Azure infrastructure design and services.
