Job Description
The talented AWS Cloud Engineer designs, implements, secures, and manages scalable cloud infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS), with a strong focus on cost optimization, automation, and compliance with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) and related standards. This role provides deep technical leadership in cloud architecture, security hardening, and cloud cost management while mentoring engineering teams and supporting mission-critical systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and highly available cloud infrastructure on AWS.
- Lead cloud architecture decisions and provide technical guidance and direction to engineering teams.
- Build, manage, and maintain cloud infrastructure, storage, and network solutions using AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform and AWS CloudFormation to ensure consistent and repeatable deployments.
- Implement and manage security controls including IAM policies, encryption, logging, and monitoring in alignment with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and related standards.
- Implement cloud infrastructure hardening practices, including the use of STIGs and other security baselines.
- Identify, assess, and remediate security vulnerabilities in cloud environments using tools such as WIZ and related platforms.
- Provide deep expertise in AWS cost modeling, including cost allocation, forecasting, and optimization strategies such as Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, spot usage, and rightsizing.
- Continuously analyze and optimize cloud spend using AWS Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Reports (CUR), and third-party cost management tools.
- Educate and mentor engineering teams on AWS best practices, cloud architecture principles, security standards, and cost-efficient design patterns.
- Support and help ensure compliance with frameworks such as NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, and the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program.
- Provide a modest level of 24x7 on-call support for key systems to maintain availability and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cloud solutions meet technical, security, and compliance requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of cloud operations, automation, monitoring, and incident response processes.
Essential Skills
- 7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure or cloud engineering.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, and CloudWatch.
- Strong experience building, managing, and maintaining cloud infrastructure, storage, and network solutions on AWS.
- Deep expertise in AWS cost modeling, including cost allocation, forecasting, and optimization strategies such as Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, spot usage, and rightsizing.
- Hands-on experience using AWS Cost Explorer and AWS Cost and Usage Reports (CUR) for cloud cost analysis and optimization.
- Proficiency in developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
- Experience implementing security controls in AWS, including IAM, encryption, logging, and monitoring.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, and Amazon ECS.
- Strong experience implementing cloud infrastructure hardening using STIGs and similar security baselines.
- Strong experience identifying and remediating vulnerabilities in cloud environments using tools such as WIZ.
- Experience working with compliance frameworks such as NIST 800-171 and NIST 800-53.
- Understanding of and experience with the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) program and managing Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) in cloud environments.
- DoD 8140 certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field such as computer science, electronic engineering, or computer engineering, or equivalent additional years of experience in lieu of a degree.
- Ability to obtain U.S. Government security clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Army experience is highly preferred.
- AWS Professional-level certifications, such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, are preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and educate engineering teams on AWS best practices and cost-efficient cloud design.
- Strong analytical skills for cost analysis, performance tuning, and optimization of cloud resources.
- Solid understanding of cloud security best practices and regulatory requirements related to managing CUI in cloud environments.
- Experience working in environments that require adherence to formal cybersecurity and compliance frameworks.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Orlando, FL.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $80.00/hr.
