Job Summary
CRISP Shared Services (CSS) serves as the technology partner for health information exchange (HIE) organizations in Maryland, DC, West Virginia, Connecticut, Alaska, Virginia, Kentucky, Florida, and other jurisdictions. CSS facilitates the electronic transfer of clinical and public health information to positively impact the healthcare system through improved patient care and outcomes, reduced costs, and data-driven understanding of regional public health concerns.
The Azure Cloud Engineer will help design, build, and support our Azure and Microsoft 365 cloud environments. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys both building modern cloud infrastructure and ensuring operational stability.
The Azure Cloud Engineer will play a key role in driving automation, improving reliability, and strengthening security across our cloud ecosystem. Working closely with Infrastructure, Security, and Application teams, the Azure Cloud Engineer will help deliver scalable and resilient solutions that support critical business and healthcare operations.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following below. Other duties may be assigned.
Cloud Infrastructure Engineering
- Design, deploy, and maintain Azure infrastructure including virtual networks, virtual machines, storage, and platform services
- Configure and manage networking components such as VNETs, subnets, NSGs, VPNs, and peering
- Implement secure and scalable architectures aligned with best practices
Automation & Optimization
- Develop and maintain automation using PowerShell, Azure CLI, or similar tools
- Contribute to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices (ARM, Bicep, Terraform—where applicable)
- Continuously improve provisioning, configuration management, and operational efficiency
Operations & Support
- Manage and prioritize cloud infrastructure tickets and service requests while meeting SLAs
- Monitor system health using Azure monitoring and alerting tools
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative solutions
- Provide limited after-hours support primarily for planned maintenance and deployments, with occasional issue resolution as needed
Microsoft 365 & Endpoint Management
- Support (alongside the broader team) core Microsoft 365 and endpoint management platforms
- Manage endpoint configurations using Microsoft Intune, including:
- Configuration profiles
- Security baselines
- Autopilot deployments
- Windows 365 (VDI) environments
Security & Compliance
- Support implementation of security controls including identity, access, and data protection
- Ensure cloud environments align with organizational policies and regulatory requirements
- Assist in maintaining secure configurations across Azure and M365
Collaboration & Documentation
- Work cross-functionally with DevOps, Security, and application teams
- Partner with vendors and service providers to ensure performance and SLA adherence
- Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles
Required Experience And/or Education

- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent combination of experience and certifications
- 3-5 years of hands-on experience in Azure cloud engineering or administration
- Strong understanding of:
- Azure networking (VNETs, DNS, VPN, routing)
- Virtual machines (Windows & Linux)
- Azure storage and monitoring
- Experience managing Microsoft 365 environments
- Solid foundation in networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN)
- Experience with scripting and automation (PowerShell preferred)
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates)
- Familiarity with:
- Azure SQL, App Services, Application Gateways, Key Vault
- Azure Monitor / Log Analytics
- Experience with endpoint management using Intune
- Exposure to security frameworks or regulated environments (HIPAA/HITRUST/SOC2)
- Microsoft certifications (e.g., AZ-104, AZ-305, MS-102)

Compensation
Targeted base salary: $100k - $120k per year, based on experience and qualifications, plus benefits and bonuses.
