Engineering Lead – DevOps
6+ Years Experience
About Setu
India’s economic infrastructure needs a complete overhaul. Today, our digital economy rides on rickety monolithic systems built in the mid-90s. It takes months to complete a simple bank integration and launch a fintech product. This inefficiency cannot continue.
If our economy has to grow, we need world-class API infrastructure for financial services that rivals the likes of Stripe and AWS.
At Setu, we are solving this by abstracting away the complexity of legacy financial infrastructure and replacing it with a developer platform that offers clean, high-performance API bundles to embed finance into any application.
So developers can do what they do best—build amazing products that improve people's lives.
Importance of the Role
As a senior leader on the Engineering team, you will set the bar for how we build, run, and secure infrastructure at Setu.
You will lead a high-performing team of DevOps engineers while remaining deeply hands-on, spending approximately:
- 70% as an Individual Contributor
- 30% on leadership, mentoring, roadmap planning, and stakeholder management
We're looking for someone who can build platforms that make developers faster, systems more reliable, and infrastructure more secure.
You will own the reliability, security, observability, and cost efficiency of Setu's cloud infrastructure across all products while partnering closely with Engineering and Product teams to embed DevSecOps practices throughout the SDLC.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of 3–5 DevOps engineers, setting technical direction, defining the roadmap, and collaborating with Engineering and Product stakeholders.
- Own the reliability and security posture of existing infrastructure by identifying gaps, prioritizing improvements, and driving remediation end-to-end.
- Own Setu's cloud cost charter by improving visibility, accountability, and continuous optimization of AWS spend.
- Own AWS cloud security by hardening infrastructure, managing IAM and secrets, and ensuring audit readiness.
- Drive internal and external technology audits from an infrastructure and SDLC perspective, including evidence collection, remediation, and closure.
- Build internal developer platforms, paved paths, self-service tooling, and golden workflows that improve engineering productivity.
- Manage the DevOps on-call rotation across all Setu products and participate in on-call responsibilities when required.
- Lead compliance and infrastructure security initiatives by embedding DevSecOps practices and improving overall security visibility.
Who We're Looking For
To succeed in this role, you should have:
- 6+ years of DevOps/SRE/Platform engineering experience, with at least 2 years leading or mentoring a team of engineers.
- Hands-on expertise with our core stack: GitLab CI/CD, AWS, ECS, EKS, Terraform, Flux CD, and HashiCorp Vault.
- Strong observability chops—running ClickHouse for logs and VictoriaMetrics/thanos for metrics at scale (or comparable systems).
- Deep understanding of DevSecOps practices—SAST, DAST, SBOM, and SCA—and experience integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong AWS cloud security background—comfortable with WAF, GuardDuty, Inspector, Shield, IAM hardening, and threat detection across ECS/EKS environments.
- A platform engineering mindset—you instinctively solve problems by building self-serve tooling that makes developers faster, not by adding processes.
- A FinOps lens on infrastructure—experience driving cloud cost optimisation programmes and holding teams accountable to budgets.
- Experience with SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 270018/17, and similar compliance patterns for Infrastructure. Working knowledge of SIEM and similar security posture tools is a plus.
- Working knowledge of one or more programming/scripting languages (Python, Go, Bash) for automation and tooling.
- A bias for action, strong written communication, and the ability to influence cross-functional partners without authority.
