DevOps Manager / Lead
Experience: 5+ Years | Location: Hyderabad (Onsite)
About SmartDocs
SmartDocs is an AI-powered Source-to-Pay platform helping enterprises digitize and automate their procurement and finance operations. As we scale our platform, we're building a strong DevOps function to keep our infrastructure fast, secure, and reliable.
The Role (Why We're Writing This)
Let's be honest. You've read a 100's of JDs that say "fast-paced environment" and "wear many hats." This is not that JD. Well, it is - but at least we're upfront about it.
We're looking for a DevOps Manager who has actually been woken up at 1 AM by a pager and lived to tell the tale. Someone who has opinions about IaC tooling and can defend them in a meeting. Someone who reads "own the Azure environment end to end" and thinks finally, nobody else touching my networking instead of run.
If you've spent 5+ years fixing what other people call "quick changes".
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- Lead a 4-6 person DevOps/SRE team including the on-call program. Yes, you'll design the rotation. Yes, you'll also be in it. Leadership is not a spectator sport here.
- Own our Microsoft Azure environment end to end - networking, IaC, cost, security posture. Terraform or Bicep? Your call. We'll look to you for the right tooling, which is corporate speak for "you break it, you bought it - but also, you build it, you own the credit."
- Own uptime and SLAs for production client environments. Enterprise clients notice downtime with impressive speed. You'll run incident response and write postmortems that are actually honest, not the "human error" cop-out kind.
- Build CI/CD pipelines for trunk-based development across U.S. and India teams. 2 time zones, 1 main branch, 0 patience for broken builds. You know exactly what that means.
- Operate and tune MongoDB at production scale - including backup and restore testing. Because a backup you've never restored is just a very expensive file.
- Own infrastructure security - patching, secrets, certificates, vulnerability management, network segmentation. If the phrase "the cert expired" gives you a small heart palpitation, good. You'll fit right in.
- Produce the technical evidence behind our SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and ISO 27001 certifications. Auditors will ask you questions. Clients will send you security questionnaires long enough to have chapters. You'll answer both without crying, Mostly.
- Own disaster recovery. Define RTO/RPO. Test it. Prove it. "It should work" is not a DR strategy, and you know that better than anyone.
Who We're Looking For (Be Brutally Honest With Yourself Here)
- 5 - 10 years in DevOps/SRE/infrastructure, with 3+ years leading engineers. Leading means humans reported to you - not "I mentored an intern once."
- Deep, current Azure experience. "I did a certification in 2019" is not current. Networking, identity, monitoring, cost - the unglamorous stuff that actually keeps production alive.
- You've carried a pager and run real incidents. If your idea of an outage is a staging environment hiccup, this will be a growth experience.... A steep one.
- Hands-on CI/CD at team scale - Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar. You have strong feelings about pipeline design and we want to hear them.
- Production database operations, MongoDB strongly preferred. You know what a replica set election feels like at the worst possible moment.
- Working knowledge of SOC 2 / GDPR / ISO 27001. You've been through audits. You know what evidence looks like - and more importantly, what it looks like when it's missing.
Mandate to have (Yes it's a Deal Breakers)
- Fluency with modern AI development tools - Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Lovable. We're an AI company; we'd find it odd if you weren't at least curious.
- Experience supporting a SaaS / enterprise product environment. Enterprise clients are a specific kind of adventure.
Why SmartDocs
You'll have actual ownership - not the JD-buzzword version, the real one where decisions are yours, outcomes are yours, and nobody second-guesses your architecture from a spreadsheet. You'll join a fast-growing AI product company where your infrastructure decisions directly shape how enterprises run their operations. Strong team, real problems, and the room to build things the right way instead of the fast way.
If you've read this far and thought "finally, a JD written by people who've actually run production" - apply. We should talk.
