Summary
We are seeking an AWS Cloud Engineer with expertise in infrastructure and platform services to support government-related systems. This role requires hands-on experience with Terraform for Infrastructure as Code, a service-oriented mindset, and comfort working directly with clients. The ideal candidate can both build and explain the systems they work on, since documentation and communication are core parts of this role, not afterthoughts.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain AWS infrastructure using Terraform, supporting GitHub Actions workflows and YAML-based configurations.
- Investigate and troubleshoot infrastructure issues as they arise.
- Write and maintain documentation and SOPs.
- Communicate directly with clients in a clear, professional, and service-minded way.
- Document systems and processes continuously as the work evolves.

Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a Cloud Engineer with a focus on AWS infrastructure and platform work.
- Extensive hands-on experience using Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.
- Working knowledge of YAML, particularly as it applies to Terraform and GitHub Actions.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical issues.
- Proven recent experience with automation.
- Solid technical writing skills including documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Strong client-facing communication skills and a genuine service mindset; ability to document systems as work progresses, not just after the fact.
- Familiarity with Python and/or BASH.
Preferred
- Comfortable using AI tools to assist with syntax while understanding the underlying configuration (what it does and why it breaks).
This is a 4-month hybrid Contract opportunity with our Kansas City, MO, client.
