About the Role
As a Cloud Database Engineer, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing cloud-hosted database platforms across modern cloud environments. You will support both relational and non-relational databases, ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness, optimize database performance, and maintain robust security controls. This role requires close collaboration with application development, infrastructure, and architecture teams to support critical business systems at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Provision, configure, and manage cloud database services, including managed SQL database platforms.
- Design, implement, and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) solutions.
- Monitor database health and performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks through query tuning and index optimization.
- Implement and maintain database security controls, including encryption, access management, auditing, and compliance requirements.
- Manage backup, restoration, and point-in-time recovery processes while regularly validating disaster recovery procedures.
- Collaborate with engineering and architecture teams on database schema design, migrations, and capacity planning initiatives.
- Develop and maintain operational runbooks, standards, and change management documentation.
- Evaluate emerging database technologies and recommend improvements to enhance reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
- Provide guidance and best practices related to directory services, security hardening, and vulnerability remediation.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of database administration experience in a large-scale enterprise environment.
- 8+ years of experience supporting and administering Windows-based systems.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- 3+ years of experience designing, implementing, and testing high-availability and disaster recovery solutions for production databases.
- 3+ years of experience using Terraform to provision and manage cloud infrastructure and database services.
- Strong expertise in managed cloud database platforms, particularly Azure-based database services.
- Proven experience with database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing strategies, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Terraform.
- Hands-on experience leveraging AI/ML tools for database optimization, anomaly detection, performance monitoring, or query analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related field.
