About the Role
Model Technology Solutions is seeking a senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer to lead Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) deployments and manage cloud infrastructure across a portfolio of regulated mid-market clients.
The primary focus of this role is an enterprise AVD implementation, including assessment, architecture, pilot deployment, production rollout, optimization, and client handoff. In addition, you will support Azure infrastructure, disaster recovery, Active Directory, hybrid environments, and cloud modernization initiatives across multiple client engagements.
This role requires a hands-on engineer who can lead technical workshops, develop solution architectures, build and deploy solutions, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients.
Key ResponsibilitiesAzure Virtual Desktop Leadership
- Assess existing Azure, Windows 365, networking, security, and remote access environments.
- Design and deploy AVD solutions, including pooled and personal desktops, RemoteApps, App Attach, FSLogix, and disaster recovery environments.
- Define host pool sizing, capacity planning, image strategy, user personas, and cost optimization models.
- Configure Entra ID integration, Conditional Access, MFA, RBAC, and security controls.
- Lead pilot deployments, production rollouts, user onboarding waves, and client acceptance activities.
- Optimize performance, scalability, resilience, and cost across deployed environments.
- Deliver documentation, operational procedures, and knowledge transfer.
Infrastructure Engineering
- Design and manage Azure landing zones, virtual networking, security controls, monitoring, and governance.
- Administer hybrid infrastructure, including Active Directory, Hyper-V, VMware, Azure Arc, and Update Manager.
- Manage backup and disaster recovery using Azure Backup and Acronis.
- Build Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform and automation with PowerShell.
- Execute maintenance windows and infrastructure upgrades as required.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years designing, deploying, and operating Microsoft Azure environments.
- Proven experience delivering Azure Virtual Desktop at production scale.
- Strong expertise with:
- Azure Virtual Desktop
- FSLogix
- MSIX/App Attach
- Azure Compute Gallery and image lifecycle management
- Entra ID, MFA, Conditional Access, and RBAC
- Azure networking, VPNs, ExpressRoute, and multi-region design
- Active Directory and Group Policy
- Backup, disaster recovery, and recovery validation
- Advanced PowerShell scripting
- Experience leading end-to-end client engagements from discovery through implementation and support.
- Ability to work occasional evening and weekend maintenance windows.
Preferred Qualifications
- Windows 365 experience.
- Intune administration.
- Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code experience.
- Azure certifications (AZ-140, AZ-104, AZ-305).
- Azure Arc and Azure Update Manager experience.
- Experience with ransomware recovery and large-scale disaster recovery efforts.
- Consulting experience in healthcare, manufacturing, or financial services environments.
