Role Summary
The Senior Cloud Engineer - GCP will serve as a subject matter expert of Cloud technologies for Alaska Air Group (AAG) and its subsidiaries. As an individual contributor this role defines long-term strategy for the Cloud Platforms team and exercises considerable latitude and initiative to solve complex problems. They must demonstrate expert skills in driving Cloud adoption strategies using industry standard design principles while ensuring all cloud services at Alaska Air Group are safe, secure and cost-effective.
Prior experience in implementing Google Cloud infrastructure platforms and related certifications such as Google Certified Cloud Architect is required for this position.
Key Duties
- Act as a subject matter expert and enterprise technology thought leader on GCP Cloud platforms.
- Design and implement innovative solutions for multi-region, highly available and highly automated Cloud environments to support full software development life cycle and production of mission-critical applications
- Serve as the point of escalation for other application administrators in the event of severe or critical issues impacting production operations.
- Focused on continuous improvement in system reliability through automation and monitoring.
- Lead cross divisional enterprise infrastructure projects related to Cloud services.
- Act as a forward thinker to help ensure that new capabilities are evaluated, implemented, and operationalized.
- Provide best practices, automation guidelines and systems engineering principles for Cloud Infrastructure. The role will focus on the Google Cloud Platform but will also include Azure.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required
- 4 years of experience in software engineering, or related area.
- Bachelor’s degree with a focus in Computer Science or a related field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
- Experience in the following:
- GCP certification such as Cloud Engineer and/or Cloud Architect
- GCP core infrastructure including networking, security, identity, and data Load Balancing, DNS, Interconnect, CDN, Compute, Storage, DR, Security, and Monitoring
- Architecting, designing, and implementing plans for deploying complex application workloads on GCP data products such as Big Query
- Knowledge of Security, Identity and Access Management (IAM), Key Management, Access Controls and Security Protocols, Network routing, Firewalls, ACL's, cloud IaaS components on GCP
- Expert knowledge and experience in Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment
- Experience developing, maintaining, and driving a continuous improvement culture within Cloud Center of Excellence team and its partners.
- Proven experience in implementing cloud security best practices
- Experience working in Azure, in addition to GCP
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability introducing new ideas and technologies to communities of developers.
- High degree of professionalism and customer service orientation.
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to collaborate with a variety of teams.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred
- Experience building high-scaled distributed systems running in cloud environments.
- Experience building and deploying to Kubernetes environments.
- Experience with DevOps practices and supporting tools.
- Experience in agile/lean development methodologies
- Experience with design patterns and/or SOLID principle

Salary Range
$101,800-$168,000 / year
Salary Details
Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
