ARETUM, a leading government contracting company specializing in technology-enabled mission support services, is seeking a Contingent DevOps Engineer to join our talented team. In this role, you will be responsible for automating and optimizing our development and deployment processes while ensuring the availability and reliability of our software applications and infrastructure.
As a Contingent DevOps Engineer, you will collaborate closely with development and operations teams to streamline workflows, enhance system performance, and implement best practices in Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD). Responsibilities
- Manage and operate CI/CD systems, including GitLab for version control, Jenkins for CI, and Kubernetes/Docker Swarm for container orchestration
- Ensure CI/CD systems remain operational and compliant with SLA requirements for cloud-based systems
- Monitor AWS resources (e.g., databases, error logs, system load) to ensure system functionality and performance
- Manage AWS Key Management System (KMS), including key rotation and data encryption
- Create and configure new virtual machines (VMs) to support production, development, and testing environments
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (OCIO and development teams) to implement changes and ensure compatibility
- Proactively address performance issues by updating software, deploying patches, and maintaining readiness for security compliance
- Investigate and resolve critical production issues, such as configuration fixes and hotfix deployments
- Install and manage agile task management tools and other applications in AWS environments
- Implement and oversee system backup and restoration processes to ensure data reliability
- Monitor system health using AWS CloudWatch, addressing any performance or security issues
- Copy projects and repositories from Git to OCIO GitLab/GitHub as required
- Provide technical support and guidance to users of CI/CD environments, ensuring smooth operations
- Deliver weekly reports during DevOps stand-up meetings, including documentation, scripts, and other relevant artifacts
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in DevOps, with 3+ years in AWS cloud environments
- Expertise in AWS services, including EC2, S3, IAM, KMS, and RDS
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, and container orchestration using Kubernetes/Docker Swarm
- Strong proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, or PowerShell) for automation and system management
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex production issues and deploy effective solutions
- In-depth knowledge of IT security practices and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC 2, NIST, or ISO 27001)
- Experience with system performance monitoring tools such as AWS CloudWatch
- Solid understanding of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools like Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
- Excellent documentation and communication skills, with a focus on stakeholder engagement
- US Citizenship is required due to Federal Requirements
