A BIT ABOUT SIBEL HEALTH:
With headquarters based in Chicago, Illinois and an international office in Seoul, South Korea, Sibel Health is an award-winning digital health startup with a mission to deliver Better Health Data for All®. We were founded with a specific focus on our most vulnerable patients—pregnant persons and babies—where we believe wireless monitoring has the potential to do the most good worldwide. We achieve this by providing a complete monitoring solution of advanced wireless wearables, best in class software, and novel AI/ML algorithms all linked to the cloud. To date, we’ve launched our technologies in 20 countries from the most advanced hospitals in the world to the most resource constrained locations. We work with some of the most respected healthcare organizations in the world from major philanthropies to large medical technology and pharmaceutical companies. With numerous FDA clearances and a recently completed fundraising round, we are poised for growth and expansion. We are seeking mission-driven individuals with a strong sense of purpose who believe that technology can improve the lives of our most vulnerable patients.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are looking for a Cloud Operations Engineer. This role is the central coordination point for cloud infrastructure at Sibel Health, connecting Engineering, Security, IT, and Customer Success to ensure our platform is reliable, secure, and scalable. You will own cloud infrastructure execution, keeping our AWS environment running, implementing security controls, supporting client deployments, and enabling the teams around you to move faster.
This is not a traditional cloud ops role. We expect this person to work at the speed of modern tooling, using AI-assisted agents and CLI-driven workflows to generate, validate, and deploy infrastructure rather than hand-authoring everything from scratch. The right candidate thinks in systems, directs automation confidently, and knows when to trust the output and when to question it.
Sibel's fast-paced environment offers ample opportunities for growth in several areas: improved technology skills, effective leadership, dedicated mentorship, creative design, strong communication skills, teamwork, and more. This is a full-time position.
WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON:
AWS Infrastructure (operations, monitoring, automation)
- Manage and maintain Sibel's AWS cloud infrastructure, ensuring systems are healthy, patched, and performant.
- Monitor cloud infrastructure through dashboards, alerts, and log management to ensure real-time visibility into system health.
- Build and manage Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), leveraging AI-assisted tooling and scripting to ensure consistency and accelerate delivery.
- Support emerging AI/ML infrastructure and API integration needs as the engineering team scales AI-powered features and workflows on AWS.
Client Environments (provisioning, cloud support, go-lives)
- Build, configure, and validate cloud environments for new client deployments in coordination with the Client Integration & Support team. Provide cloud-side setup, validation, and troubleshooting support during client go-lives.
- Serve as the cloud escalation point for Customer Success and Support, diagnosing infrastructure-related customer issues and identifying opportunities to improve customer experience workflows.
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide timely response when infrastructure issues arise.
Deployment Operations (CI/CD, IaC, pipeline support)
- Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows in coordination with Engineering.
- Drive continuous improvement across reliability, performance, cost efficiency, and observability.
Resilience (DR, security controls, documentation)
- Implement and maintain security controls including access policies, encryption, threat detection, and compliance guardrails in partnership with the Security team.
- Maintain runbooks, recovery procedures, and operational documentation, using automation to keep them current and reliable.
- Coordinate across Engineering, Security, IT, and Customer Success to ensure infrastructure needs are met and handoffs are clean.
ABOUT YOU:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical/science program, or a degree in a related field and relevant experience.
- 3-5+ years of experience in cloud operations, DevOps, or systems engineering with a strong focus on AWS.
- Hands-on experience with core AWS services: EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, Route 53, ECS or EKS.
- Solid understanding of AWS security services and best practices (GuardDuty, Security Hub, AWS Config, KMS, Secrets Manager).
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and/or CloudFormation).
- Comfortable directing AI coding agents (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor) to execute infrastructure tasks via CLI, reviewing and validating outputs rather than authoring everything manually.
- Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, PagerDuty, or similar).
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, VPNs, load balancing, VPC peering).
- Strong communicator with the ability to engage directly with customers and translate complex infrastructure topics into clear, actionable information.
- Experience with incident management processes and on-call rotations.
- Ability to prioritize and manage critical timelines in a fast-paced environment.
YOU MAY THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF:
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Associate, SysOps Administrator, or Security Specialty).
- Experience in a customer-facing SaaS or healthcare technology environment.
- Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC 2, HIPAA, ISO 27001).
- Experience with containerized workloads on ECS or EKS.
- Familiarity with CI/CD platforms (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CodePipeline).
- Experience with ITSM or ticketing platforms (Jira, ServiceNow, Zendesk).
- Background in or exposure to customer support escalation workflows.
- Familiarity with LLM API cost monitoring and governance, including tracking spend, setting budgets, and attributing costs by team or use case.
- Understanding of network egress controls for third-party AI APIs, including VPC endpoints, egress filtering, or API gateway patterns in a HIPAA context.
BENEFITS:
- Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
- "Take as much time as you need" policy.
- Simple IRA plan with employer matching.
- Company sponsored events and lunches.
- Yearly stipend for professional development.
- Opportunity to be part of a dedicated and driven team that is here to disrupt and revolutionize wireless monitoring.
