We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer in Bangalore to own and scale the API layer that connects our production platform to image, audio, and video generation models, and to work closely with Publicis’ AI providers to ensure we always have the latest capabilities available.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining high-performance, secure, and reliable APIs that serve a large and growing internal and external user base. You’ll work closely with AI engineers, MLOps, DevOps, external AI providers, and product teams to turn model capabilities into robust, production-grade services.
This role is hands-on and senior: you’ll write code, review code, shape architecture, and set engineering standards for how we build and operate APIs across the platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain FastAPI-based microservices that expose image, audio, and video generation models through a unified API layer.
- Architect and implement scalable, low-latency APIs capable of serving a high volume of concurrent requests across multiple regions and clients.
- Work closely with Publicis’ AI providers and partners to integrate new models and capabilities, ensuring the platform always exposes the most up-to-date, performant, and cost-efficient AI services.
- Implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting for all API services (e.g., latency, error rates, throughput, cost, model health).
- Ensure reliability and resilience via proper error handling, timeouts, retries, rate limiting, and circuit-breaking patterns.
- Own API security and governance: authentication, authorization, API keys/tokens, input validation, and secure data handling.
- Drive best practices in software engineering: testing, code quality, documentation, CI/CD integration, and API versioning.
- Work with DevOps/SRE to optimize performance, scalability, and cost efficiency (autoscaling, horizontal scaling, caching, etc.).
- Participate in architecture and design reviews; provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Contribute to internal standards and reusable components for API development across teams.
Must-Have Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in Python.
- Proven experience building and maintaining production APIs using FastAPI (or very similar frameworks with willingness to focus on FastAPI).
- Strong understanding of scaling APIs for a large user base:
- Horizontal scaling, load balancing, concurrency models (async I/O, workers)
- Caching strategies (Redis, CDN, etc.)
- Performance optimization and bottleneck analysis
- Solid knowledge of monitoring and observability:
- Metrics, logs, and traces (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK, Datadog, etc.)
- Defining SLIs/SLOs and working with alerts & dashboards
- Strong experience with logging best practices: structured logging, correlation IDs, log levels, log aggregation, and retention strategies.
- Deep familiarity with API engineering best practices:
- RESTful API design, pagination, error formats, idempotency
- API versioning and backward compatibility
- Secure design (OWASP, rate limiting, input sanitization)
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes or similar).
- Comfort with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing (unit, integration, load tests).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams (AI/ML, product, UX, production operations, and external partners).
Nice-to-Have
- Experience integrating with image, audio, or video generation models (e.g., diffusion models, TTS, voice cloning, video generation).
- Background working in adtech, martech, or content production environments.
- Prior experience in AI/ML platform engineering or MLOps-heavy environments.
