Referment is working with an established investment management firm to find a Cloud Engineer for a systems team responsible for production compute infrastructure. The role focuses on hybrid grid computing, extending on-premise capacity into major public-cloud platforms and improving how engineering teams consume cloud services.
You will combine hands-on platform engineering with operational ownership. Alongside building automation and improving Linux compute reliability, you will work directly with technologists to identify suitable cloud use cases, move ideas from experimentation into production and support services through their lifecycle.
The Role
- Design, build and operate hybrid grid-computing infrastructure that can burst workloads into AWS, GCP and Azure.
- Improve the reliability and performance of Linux-based compute platforms and their networking.
- Develop tooling and automation that make cloud capabilities consistent and straightforward for engineering teams.
- Own cloud-platform observability and participate in an operational escalation rotation, taking incidents from triage through remediation.
- Partner with technologists to identify valuable cloud opportunities and guide adoption.
- Apply secure-by-default principles throughout platform design and delivery.
What We're Looking For
- Five to seven years of infrastructure or software engineering experience supporting production systems.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP or Azure.
- Strong Linux skills in a hybrid environment, including debugging network traffic across public and private links.
- Experience with modern development and infrastructure-as-code practices such as Terraform.
- A solid grounding in cloud security fundamentals.
- The communication, organisation and judgement to carry technical initiatives forward.
Desirable Experience
Programming in Go, Python or Rust would be valuable, as would experience supporting compute-intensive platforms or distributed workloads.
This could suit a cloud platform engineer, infrastructure engineer, site reliability engineer or systems engineer who enjoys combining deep Linux and networking work with automation and production ownership.
