What is the role?
As a DevOps Engineering Intern at 8byte, you will work closely with senior DevOps and engineering teams to support, learn, and contribute to real-world infrastructure, deployment, and automation workflows. This role is designed for someone who wants hands-on exposure to modern DevOps practices in a fast-moving startup environment while building strong fundamentals in cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and reliability.
You will not be expected to design large systems independently. Instead, you will learn by doing, supporting production systems under guidance, and gradually taking ownership of well-defined tasks.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Assist in maintaining and improving CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
- Support deployment and monitoring of applications in containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Help manage cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform under supervision.
- Assist with monitoring and observability using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or Datadog.
- Support debugging of infrastructure and deployment issues with guidance from senior engineers.
- Write simple automation scripts in Python or Bash to improve operational efficiency.
- Learn and follow security best practices for cloud and infrastructure systems.
- Collaborate with engineers to understand DevOps workflows and production systems.
- Document learnings, processes, and changes clearly and consistently.
Attributes
We are looking for a DevOps Intern with the following:
- Basic understanding of DevOps concepts, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Git and GitHub.
- Exposure to Docker and a basic understanding of Kubernetes concepts.
- Some experience or coursework involving Terraform or Infrastructure as Code is a plus.
- Basic scripting knowledge in Python or Bash.
- Familiarity with at least one cloud platform, preferably AWS.
- Willingness to learn monitoring, observability, and security fundamentals.
- Curious, proactive, and comfortable asking questions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment with guidance and mentorship.
What we offer
- Hands-on learning with real production systems.
- Close mentorship from experienced DevOps and engineering leaders.
- Exposure to modern cloud, automation, and reliability practices.
- Opportunity for full-time conversion based on performance.
- Ownership of scoped tasks that have real impact.
- A collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Breakfast and lunch at the office.
