At Intuit, Identity & Profile is the foundational layer that powers every product — from TurboTax to QuickBooks to Credit Karma. Our platform serves hundreds of millions of customers and must be highly available, massively scalable, and always evolving. We're looking for a Principal Engineer who is backend-heavy, reliability-obsessed, and still writing code.
⚙️ The Role This is a dual-skill position — not a DevOps role.
You'll spend the majority of your time as a hands-on Java backend engineer, designing and building production-grade microservices and foundational platforms. The rest of your time you'll own our Site Reliability posture — defining SLOs, driving incident management, and building the automation that makes our systems smarter and our engineers' lives easier.

💻 What You'll Do
Backend Engineering (~60%) → Write production-grade Java (11/17+), Spring Boot microservices and RESTful APIs → Drive JVM performance engineering — GC tuning, heap profiling, low-latency design → Architect highly available distributed systems at scale → Build internal developer tooling and foundational platforms
Site Reliability (~40%) → Define and own SLOs, SLAs, and error budgets for Profile services → Lead end-to-end incident management, RCAs, and blameless postmortems → Diagnose production failures using thread dumps, heap dumps, and distributed traces → Build AIOps automation using LLMs and GitHub Copilot to reduce toil and cut MTTR
✅ What We're Looking For
→ 10+ years of Java backend experience — JVM internals, Spring ecosystem, distributed systems → Proven SRE experience — you've run incident bridges, written postmortems, and moved the reliability needle → Deep diagnostic skills — flame graphs and thread dumps are second nature to you → Experience building with AI tooling — not just using Copilot, but engineering automation on top of LLMs → Strong cross-functional instincts — you influence product decisions without losing your technical edge → Agile/Scrum experience in a fast-moving engineering org
