Position Summary:
Sr. Manager, Cloud Engineering & DevOps
This opportunity is part of the Global Technology Infrastructure & Operations team (GTIO), where our mission is to deliver modern and relevant technology that supports the way McDonald’s works. We provide best-in-class foundational technology products and services including Global Networking, Cloud, End User Computing, and IT Service Management. It’s our goal to always provide an engaging, relevant, and simple experience for our customers.
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager - Cloud Engineering & DevOps to lead and drive our cloud and DevOps initiatives. This is an exciting leadership opportunity to build and manage cutting-edge cloud infrastructure and automation processes. The ideal candidate will have over 12 years of industry experience, with a strong background in cloud technologies, DevOps methodologies, and team leadership. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced technology leader to help shape the transformation of infrastructure and operations products and services to the entire McDonalds environment.
While no two days are likely to be the same, your typical responsibilities will include:
Cloud Architecture & Strategy:
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for large-scale enterprise systems.
- Architect and implement scalable, highly available, and cost-effective solutions on public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, preferably GCP).
- Define and implement best practices for cloud security, cost management, and performance optimization.
- DevOps Automation:
- Drive the automation of infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployment pipelines using modern DevOps tools (Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, etc.).
- Champion Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows and improve the software release lifecycle.
Cloud Security & Compliance:
- Ensure that cloud architectures meet security standards, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with security teams to define and enforce security policies for cloud environments.
- Regularly audit cloud infrastructure and ensure compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with product managers, architects, and business leaders to align cloud and DevOps strategies with organizational goals.
- Manages a strategically important technology product, and/or suite of DevSecOps products with significant business impact. Owns the definition of the product(s) roadmap.
- Drive cloud migration initiatives, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum operational efficiency.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for cloud technologies, providing technical guidance to senior leadership.
Who we are looking for:
- Minimum of 12+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or a related technical field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Extensive hands-on experience with cloud-based technologies and DevOps tools in a production environment.
- Prior experience in managing large-scale cloud migration projects is a significant advantage
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong expertise in cloud platforms like AWS (Amazon Web Services), Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Extensive experience in DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or similar.
- Solid understanding of cloud-native application architectures and microservices.
- Experience in managing cloud infrastructure cost optimization, monitoring, and performance tuning.
Certifications:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent certification is mandatory.
- Additional certifications in DevOps, Kubernetes, or cloud security are a plus.
- Leadership & Soft Skills:
- Proven track record of leading and managing large, cross-functional teams in an agile and fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships with senior leadership.
- Ability to think strategically, with a strong understanding of business needs and how cloud technologies can support organizational goals.
- Decomposes significantly complex problems into straight-forward solutions. Consistently brings strong, data-driven business, and technical judgment to decisions.
- Identifies core problems or opportunities within business processes. Understands the root cause and impacts for the project and other teams.
- Removes bottlenecks to enable your team(s) to work independently. Drives team members to proactively identify gaps and opportunities (e.g., services, workflows, tooling) within or between markets and other parts of the organization.
- Invests time to coach junior technical product managers to refine their capabilities and close skill gaps. Works closely with technical product managers and leads by example.
Preferred Qualification:
- New Product Integration (NPI) experience.
- Experience leading DevOps teams for large, international, organizations.
- Working knowledge of data analytics, machine learning and mathematical optimization.
- Professional level certification for Azure and AWS
