Your Role In The Team
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Cloud Data Platforms team on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of cloud technologies, data architecture, and team leadership. As the Senior Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, deployment, and maintenance of our cloud data platforms, ensuring they are scalable, secure, and efficient.
What You'll Do
- Leadership and Management:
Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Provide technical direction and oversight for the design and implementation of cloud-based data solutions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management, data science, and IT, to align data platform initiatives with business goals.
Technical Strategy And Execution
Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for the cloud data platform, ensuring alignment with IG Group’s overall data strategy.
Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses on GCP.
Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of data platforms, leveraging GCP services and best practices.
Project Management
Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
Coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements, define project scope, and establish timelines.
Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
Innovation And Continuous Improvement
Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends in cloud data platforms and big data.
Drive the adoption of new tools and technologies to enhance data processing, storage, and analytics capabilities.
Implement best practices for data governance, data quality, and data security.

What You’ll Need For This Role
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing managers.
- Technical Skills:
- Extensive experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Strong knowledge of data architecture, data modeling, and ETL processes.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, or Spark.
- Experience with data storage and processing technologies on GCP/AWS (e.g., BigQuery, Redshift, Data Flow, Glue etc.
- Experience leading engineering work to build Data Management frameworks ( Data Quality Management, Data Catalog, metadata management using Cloud or open source technologies like Great Expectations, Datahub,Google Dataplex etc)
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform).
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and manage high-performing engineering teams.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
