Senior Cloud Engineer
Chicago or New York (Hybrid)
A leading global buyside investment firm is seeking a highly skilled Senior Cloud Engineer to join its Infrastructure & Platform Services team. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to shape the firm’s cloud strategy, architecture, and implementation—while working alongside some of the most talented professionals in the industry.
The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the firm’s hybrid cloud platform, driving automation, and delivering innovative infrastructure solutions that enable scale, agility, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a mentor and technical leader for the Cloud Engineering team.
- Architect, implement, and manage large-scale, highly available public cloud environments (AWS and Azure).
- Collaborate with developers and internal stakeholders to design and deploy optimal cloud solutions.
- Partner with Infrastructure & Platform teams to ensure a consistent end-user experience across on-premise and cloud environments.
- Write code in Python, Terraform, and Puppet to automate and optimize infrastructure and application deployment.
- Develop self-service capabilities to enable faster and more efficient cloud service access.
- Implement and maintain applications and systems running in cloud environments.
- Stay current on emerging cloud technologies, trends, and best practices to drive innovation and adoption.
- Operate the firm’s cloud and application platform as a product offering to internal teams.
- Participate in on-call rotations and after-hours maintenance as needed.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience architecting and implementing large-scale, production-grade cloud solutions (AWS preferred).
- Expert understanding of immutable infrastructure and automation tools (CloudFormation, Terraform).
- Deep knowledge of AWS services (EC2, S3, ALB/NLB, VPC, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, Batch, IAM, SQS, SNS).
- Strong expertise in Kubernetes (cluster setup, management, security, deployment, Helm); experience with EKS, AKS, or GKE preferred.
- Proficiency in Python and/or Bash scripting for automation.
- Strong Linux administration experience (especially RHEL-based systems).
- Familiarity with networking architecture, hybrid cloud integration, and FinOps principles.
- Hands-on experience with container technologies (Docker, Podman).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, TeamCity, Bitbucket, Azure Pipelines) and source control systems (Git).
- Demonstrated ability to document architecture, requirements, and solutions clearly and effectively.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in cloud architecture and strategy planning.
- Contributions to open-source projects or communities.
- Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or Kubernetes CKA/CKAD/CKS.
- Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible).
- Exposure to AI/ML infrastructure and platform engineering practices.
